Assessing the supply

EV Charging
Charging at home is the main reason an electric car works day to day, and the installation behind it is more than mounting a box on a wall. A charge point is a continuous, heavy load — it needs its own circuit, correct protection and a cable route that suits the building rather than the shortest line between two points.
We install home charge points for customers across Swords, Fingal and the wider Dublin area, and we are just as happy to look at the electrical side first if you have not yet chosen a unit.

A charger needs a dedicated way in the board. Where there is none, or the board is older, that work is dealt with as part of the job.
New cable run from the board to the charge point, correctly sized for the load and the length of the run, with appropriate protection.
Positioning matters more than people expect — where the car parks, which side the socket is on, cable reach and whether it can be reached without trailing a lead.
Getting the cable from the board to the outside wall, garage or driveway neatly, including buried or clipped runs where needed.
The circuit is tested, the unit commissioned, and we show you how it operates before we leave.
Where the car sits when parked, and which side its charging socket is on, decides where the unit should go. Second is the distance from the fuseboard — a long run is not a problem, it just needs the right cable.
Then there is the board itself. If it is full or older with limited protection, the charger circuit is the point at which that gets addressed. It is better to know that up front than to discover it on the day, which is why we ask for a photo of the board with enquiries.
Not every car parks beside the house. Chargers on detached garages, at the end of a driveway or on an outbuilding are all doable, but they may need a sub-main rather than a single circuit. That overlaps with our outdoor electrical work, and we handle both parts of it.
